چکیده

We investigate the impact of First-In-First-Out (FIFO) flow aggregation on delay performance of a Differentiated Services (DiffServ) network in the context of Expedited Forwarding (EF). Specifically, the focus is on investigating the impact of FIFO aggregation on edge-toedge delay performance. Motivated by the IST Moby Dick project, the investigation is mainly conducted through simulation. On the other hand, analytical results are also presented. We examine the conformance of simulation results with analytical results based on various findings. These findings verify analysis from different aspects.

Simulation-Based Performance Comparison of Queueing Disciplines for Differentiated Services Using OPNET

Queueing disciplines have been a subject of intensive discussion and research in the network field for scheduling packets from different traffic flows for processing at a network node (switch or router). Several queue scheduling disciplines have been designed to improve the quality of service for networked multimedia applications. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of four queueing disc...

Deterministic Edge-to-Edge Delay Bounds for a Flow under Latency Rate Scheduling in a DiffServ Network

With the occurrence of new applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and multimedia conference, there is an ongoing discussion about realizing QoS in the Internet today. Because of its potential scalability in support of QoS guarantees, the Differentiated Service (DiffServ) architecture with aggregate packet scheduling has recently attracted much attention in the networking community as a feasi...

Expedited Forwarding End to End Delay Jitter in the Differentiated Services Networks

An end to end (e2e) packet delay jitter has a negative impact on the offered QoS in IP networks. Therefore, in this paper we clarify this passive impact, and discuss the delay jitter that is based on the analysis done in [1]. However, here we focus on the expedited forwarding (EF) class in the differentiated services network (DiffServ). EF flows are represented by renewal periodic ON-OFF flows,...

Stateless RD Network Services

Rate-Delay (RD) Network Services constitute a promising differentiated-services architecture for multi-provider networks, by offering users a choice between high throughput or low queuing delay at bottleneck links. An RD router provides service differentiation via transmission scheduling and by managing two FIFO queues. To ensure strict delay bounds, an RD router tracks arrival times of packets...

"Pay bursts only once" does not hold for non-FIFO guaranteed rate nodes

We consider end-to-end delay bounds in a network of Guaranteed Rate (GR) nodes. We demonstrate that, contrary to what is generally believed, the existing end-to-end delay bounds apply only to GR nodes that are FIFO per flow. We show this by exhibiting a counter-example. Then we show that the proof of the existing bounds has a subtle, but important, dependency on the FIFO assumption, which was n...
